How We Can Help

Our primary goal is to get you out of pain and restore your comfort. Dr. Khan is prepared to assist with a variety of urgent concerns, including:

  • Severe, persistent toothaches or throbbing pain.
  • Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth.
  • Knocked-out teeth (Please call immediately, as time is a critical factor).
  • Lost or damaged dental work, such as a loose crown or a bridge that has fallen out.
  • Noticeable swelling, infection, or tender gums

Tips for Managing Your Dental Emergency

While you are on your way, staying calm is the best step you can take.

  • First steps for a knocked-out tooth: Handle the tooth gently by the crown and avoid touching the root. Rinse it with water (do not scrub), and try to place it back in the socket or carry it in a container of milk.
  • Managing a lost crown or filling until you arrive: Keep the piece safe and bring it with you. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth until the team can repair it.
  • Reducing facial swelling and inflammation: A cold compress applied to the outside of your cheek can help manage inflammation and discomfort until you are able to see us as.
  • Safely managing your dental pain: Please avoid placing aspirin or any numbing gels directly on your gums, as these can sometimes cause irritation to the soft tissue.

A Commitment to Your Comfort

“Urgent” does not mean “rushed” at our practice. Dr. Khan understands that dental emergencies often cause fear or anxiety, so our office is dedicated to creating a supportive, non-judgmental space. We focus on your well-being the moment you arrive, combining comfort items like warm towels and cozy blankets with local anesthetic to ensure you remain relaxed and pain-free.

Let’s Get You Feeling Better

You do not have to do this alone. We are proud to be your local dental home. Call 815-459-9444 and we’ll get you comfortable again.

Frequently Asked Question

How do I know if my issue is a dental emergency?

If you are in pain, have visible swelling, or have experienced trauma to your mouth, it is an emergency. If you are unsure, the safest course of action is to call us. We would rather speak with you, provide guidance, and set your mind at ease than have you spend the night suffering through pain that could be managed or treated.

Are you good with patients who are nervous or anxious?

We understand that dental emergencies often cause fear or anxiety. Our office is designed to be an anxiety-free space. We use a comfort menu, including warm towels, cozy blankets, and local anesthetic to ensure you are relaxed during your visit.

How can I manage my pain while I am on my way to the office?

The most important step is to remain calm. If you have swelling, use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek to help with discomfort. While over-the-counter medication can sometimes help, please avoid placing aspirin or any numbing gels directly on your gums or the tooth. If your pain is severe, please call us so we can give you specific guidance based on your symptoms.

How do I know if my tooth can be saved?

Every emergency is different. During your visit, Dr. Khan will use diagnostic tools to assess the health of the tooth, the roots, and the surrounding bone. We take a conservative approach, which means we will always explore all viable options to save your natural tooth before considering any other restorative procedures.

What should I do if my tooth is sensitive but not in severe pain?

If you have persistent sensitivity or mild pain, it is often a sign of an underlying issue that will not resolve on its own. It is better to have us examine it now rather than waiting for it to become a severe emergency. We can often treat these issues during a standard visit, which helps prevent more significant discomfort in the future.
